y,

Strictly home use.

Cholly,

There are turntables on the market just needed some clarity on brands.

Bruh, been out of the business for a while.

Not sure what's still on the market.

I CAN tell you that the TT should be direct drive and have variable speed.

You should also decide if you want to play it into a regular stereo (RCA plugs) or into a computer (usb).

You'll need to decide if you want straight arm (for smaller, lighter cartridges) or if you want the classical "S" arm.

You USED to be able to get high end tables from Denon and Audio Technica, and Technics made some decent stuff. Don't know if they are still in the business these days or not.

cholly, his best bet is to window shop online at b and h.  it would let him know what is available in direct drive turntables.  actually, the turn table is the easy part.  he has to decide how he will produce the sound.  will he go the traditional route with an amp and speakers or go computer.  also, once he decides which turntable he should also shop for the availability of spare parts.

also, a few years ago radio shack was still selling a direct drive turntable.

Even though I'm a downloading fiend. I'm seruiosly thinking about getting a turntable and a mixer. I still have several hundred records dgoing to waster I would like to play .Need some recommendations.I'm willing to spend under say $1000.

I'm looking at Staton's right now.

Please help?

B4l, I've had the Ion DD USB turntable (which is like the Stanton) for a couple of years now, but have not used it to upload my vinyl. Now that we're in the new place, I'm looking to start doing (this time consuming) recording soon. And whatever I need to clean up, I can do with Adobe Soundbooth.

Cholly:
Is Ion a new company? Did they take over Stanton or did Stanton just change the name?

WileECoyote06:
lol. . . .

Okay. . . if you plan on DJing, do yourself a favor and get a USB turntable that will convert vinyl to digital audio.  Ion is an okay brand; it's considered low-end, but it may do what you need.

Next invest in a DVS; and I leave those choices to you.  The most popular ones on the market are Serato Scratch Live, Traktor Scratch, MixVibes, Virtual DJ, Torq Connectiv, and PCDJ Dex.  Each one has it's pros and cons; but Serato and Traktor are generally considered the best ones.

The preferred turntables are still the Technics 1200; which are soon to be replaced (ie upgraded); but they have the trust of DJs worldwide.  If price is a major consideration, Numark, Stanton and Gemini have some pretty good options.

I'm comfortable with digital manipulation, so I utilize controllers and software to mix.
I have the Numark Mixmeister Control with Mixmeister Fusion and the newly released Numark Mixtrack.  I'm also looking at the Vestax VCI-300; because it has Serato Itch.
