Depends on the file format and the bitrate.  With MP3s at rates 320 (actually 220) and above, the nuances are barely audible by the human ear without a professional grade audio system.

Wave  and FLAC are lossless file formats. 

I quit depending on iTunes because their files are usually at 192. . .  :thefan:
