The Durham Bulls have the joined the parade to help North Carolina Central University’s Marching Sound Machine raise funds for its New Year’s Day appearance in the Rose Parade. The Bulls will host “Marching Sound Machine Night” tomorrow (9-4-2010) at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park when they take on the Norfolk Tides at 7 p.m. The band will perform between innings and during the fireworks show after the game.

Durham Bulls General Manager Michael Birling called it an honor to support NCCU as the band heads to Pasadena, Calif., to represent Durham and the university. The Marching Sound Machine is one of 16 bands invited to perform in the Rose Parade and the only band from an HBCU. Total cost for the trip is upwards of $500,000, and fundraising efforts led by the university are under way.

Baseball fans can text NCCU to 50555 to make a $10 donation, or purchase a raffle ticket to win a 2010 Nissan Versa from Michael Jordan Nissan. For more information on the Rose Parade, visit http://web.nccu.edu/tournamentofroses/.
