Y -

I won't say you are lying as I don't have proof of it, but your story does resemble swiss cheese my man.  I wasn't at the rally and did not even watch coverage of it.  You say you were there and talked with the guy in the picture that you provided in the Huffington Post piece about him being unpatriotic.  I asked a simple question re: removing the cap while saluting.  Up until that point, you did not mention that you had met and talked to the guy in the picture, which has no relevancy to the initial question I raised anyway.

Where I have a hard time buying what you're selling is rooted in the probability of you meeting a total stranger that was featured in a Huffington Post article and picture slideshow that you provided the pics to the forum and you not even recognizing the man you later clearly remembered meeting and talking to.  Those are some long odds Y and frankly, I don't believe you one bit.  Those odds are prolly similar to me meeting you in a restaurant whenwe're in two different cities my man.

Let me go back a bit to my days in Probs & Stats...
Assumptions
1. Attendance at the rally ~ 150,000
2. Photographers @ rally ~ 2,500
3. Average clicks per photobug ~ 500

As you can see, the odds of a total stranger meeting the one person in the pic that you provided are very steep.  Just off the bat, there's a 1:150,000 chance of you even meeting the guy.  Factoring in the slim probabilistic chance of a photographer actually taking a pic of someone is a bit steeper than the 1:150,000 in meeting the stranger.  I'd say it's around 1:250,000.  The odds of that one pic being selected and used in the piece is pretty long.  As anyone can see, the odds are small...now factor in the odds of it being one of the people you actually talked to, I wonder if you played the PowerBall after the rally or sometime this week.  Lady luck was on your side, along with a leprechaun, a gnome and that bunny who lost his foot.

'87, your numbers are way off.  there were at least twice as many people there.  there was someone else in the huffington post piece i talked to.  nobody has mentioned that person.  there was no reason to mention him being a veteran until it was mentioned he should not be saluting.  even after i posted the u.s. code that stated veterans can salute the colors.  the only thing in question is when the photo was taken.  you are free to contact the huffington post photographer that took the photo to find out what time the photo was taken.

the bottom line is he stated he was a veteran.  i have no reason to doubt him.  he can salute the u.s. flag.  the flag he had was not a u.s. flag.  even the 9/11 flag you have posted is not a u.s. flag.  names are not written on the u.s. flag.  the u.s. flag is described in the u.s. code.

for you people who say a veteran can not salute the american flag or you only salute the flag when it is passing are wrong.  a veteran can salute during the playing of the national anthem.  read section 595

you people should read the 110th congress h.r. 4982 section 594.  read 'em and weep

don't you people know what the democrats passed on capitol hill.

the veteran in the picture was correct in saluting.
