LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA -- Lincoln University received a $56,000.00 grant from the Educational Advancement Alliance, Inc. to continue its 11th year of the Summer Transportation Institute (STI).

President and CEO of the Educational Advancement Alliance Inc., Karen Nicholas ’79 was the primary sponsor of the Lincoln University 2010 Summer Transportation Institute, which is permitting 16 middle school students to be enrolled in this year’s program.

The mission of the Summer Transportation Institute is to create awareness, stimulate interest and expose secondary school students to take advantage of the opportunities that exist in the transportation industry.

“Lincoln University’s Summer Transportation Institute is taking the initiative to help minority students become more aware of the transportation industry as well as business, sciences, and math,” says Professor Robert Allen.  “By doing so, these middle school students will be exposed to a positive university atmosphere as well as first class tutelage throughout the summer.”

The program is approximately four weeks long, running from July 6 to July 30.

The STI consists of three programs: academic enrichment, enhancements, and sports/recreation. The students will participate in an array of activities that each program offers.  They include professional presentations, field trips, swimming, basketball, and time management, technology, science, mathematics study habits, and wealth accumulation workshops.

The STI began in 1993 on the campus of South Carolina State University.  When Lincoln joined in 1999, it hosted an in-residence program every year during the month of July and has received grant contributions since 1999.

Over 200 students from across the Mid-Atlantic region have participated in the Lincoln University Summer Transportation Institute.
