Ramhouse, I have coached with male and female coaches. It's more about competent than anything else. I give you Vivian Stringer and Pat Bibbs. They command respect, and, they get it. Plus, they know how to deal with other women in ways men cannot.

As for the Dee Stokes matter, once she was fired, replacing her was a matter of finding the most capable coach. Male or female should have been a nonissue, especially from a legal perspective. Will they listen? Remember the line in a Soldier's Story about saluting a Black officer? Beyond a certain point, its not the person, it's the position.

It is also about the staff supporting the coach. One head coach I worked with was former military. He acted like an officer: I say-you do. I supported that and things went fine. The other coach, a woman, was a novice. She made a lot of mistakes the first year. We had a after a game and she barely spoke to me for weeks. Once we employed some of what I told her, there were major changes, and, we started winning. She won the CIAA three times after that. What's really good is those players still love both of us.
