Ndamukong Suh Gives Nebraska Big Bucks Before His Big Payday

http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/the_sporting_blog/entry/view/63035/ndamukong_suh_gives_nebraska_big_bucks_before_his_big_payday

In case you needed another reason to root for Ndamukong Suh, this one's pretty good: He just announced at Nebraska's spring game that he's donating $2 million to Nebraska's strength and conditioning program and another $600,000 to endow an engineering scholarship.

That's an absurd amount of money for someone who hasn't even inked an NFL contract to pledge, but it's likely a sum that will be paid in the future, won't eat up much of what will be an eight-figure rookie deal, and probably works as a charitable donation. But it's also absurdly cool: Suh's giving money to the program that helped make him millions and to an academic discipline that he benefited from, as a construction management graduate and son of an engineer.

This sort of thing makes Tim Tebow's autograph sessions -- which benefit Tebow's family foundation -- seem like less noble charity. And if that money helps the strength and conditioning program create more beastly athletes like Suh, the Blackshirts may live up to their legendary legacy for some time to come.

Okay, it's his money to do what he wishes to do with it.

With so many wealthy white alumni and with Ndamukong Suh already haven helped bring in fans buying tickets by his playing well....he's already given Nebraska millions.

Why haven't the NFL's white alumni players donated over $2 million to Nebraska?

Now, let's take a look at if Nebraska need a black man's future earnings?.....looks like lots of fans here.

Nebraska like other powerhouse rural universities use the student athlete to make them millions of dollars. Ndamukong Suh paved his own way with his skills.

Nebraska most likely doesn't give a flip about black students. But, they care if you play football there.

They make millions from ticket sales every season.....again, where's the millions donated by their wealthy white alumni athletes?

As you can see from above Nebraska sure was doing really well from the millions they were already getting from their white alumni and the state of Nebraska. It is a public university.

The purpose of Nebraska Innovation Campus is to develop a premier private/public-sector sustainable research campus, which capitalizes on research growth and expertise of UNL faculty.

The school gave him a free ride to get an education and play football and you are upset because he is giving back to show his appreciation? Ok, you win the argument Roll Eyes

Who do you think made more from the deal, the student athlete or the university?

And after all these years that Nebraska has had football and with that huge set of skyboxes and over 300 sellouts....why haven't the many many white football alumni donated such a large amount as of yet? That's because the know the university doesn't need their money in that large size amount. This public university is doing excellent without it.

We are not talking about a private university or some small underfuded public university. This is the flagship university and NCAA Division I powerhouse Nebraska.

And for Nebraska to accept the large donation means they really are using their athletes.

Ndamukong Suh

Suh's mother, Bernadette, was born in Spanish Town, Jamaica and is a graduate of Southern Oregon University, while his father, Michael, hails from Cameroon and played semi-pro soccer in Germany for a few years while working as a machinist.

In the Ngema ethnic group from Cameroon, "Ndamukong" means "House of Spears."

Suh attended Grant High School in Portland, Oregon, where he earned Parade All-America honors and was voted the 2004 Portland Interscholastic League Defensive Player of the Year and the state Class 4A Defensive Player of the Year.

His older sister, Odette Lennon Ngum Suh, played soccer collegiately at Mississippi State University and is currently a midfielder on the Cameroon women's national football team.

Considered a four-star recruit by Rivals.com, Suh was ranked sixth among defensive tackle prospects in the nation.

On December 7, 2009, Suh was named a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.

Suh finished fourth in the Heisman race, accumulating 815 points, which is the highest total by a fourth-place finisher for the Heisman in its history.

Later that evening, Suh was named the 2009 Bronko Nagurski Trophy winner as the top defensive player in the nation.

CBS Sportsline also named Suh their Defensive Player of the Year.

Suh was named the 2009 AP Player of Year, becoming the first defensive player to receive the award in its history.

That man can do what he wants with his money !!   shrug  He didnt give the money because Nebraska NEEDED it.  nor did they ask him for it.  He gave it becuase he wants to !  Regardless of what he made for the University he made a personal decision to do something significant on the philanthropic side of athletics.  Something that most K----s know NOTHING about. !!  Stop hatin on that young brother.  At least he didn't spend 2.6 million on buyin Pookie, Ray Ray, Bootsie, Scooby, Slick, Peanut, June Bug, Skeeter, Shug, Dinky, Hotdog, and "nem" cars and houses with his money.  He did something that will benefit him and his family for generations.

Don't know who your "K----s" are unless you are speaking of yourself.

We know that Oprah and Bill Cosby gave millions to HBCUs who really needed the money. Not to Nebraska ...like they need from a black man, who's yet to even earn it.

And you have not answered ...why have not the white alumni athletes, after all the years Nebraska has had football, not given that size amount to the university? Are they the "K----s" you're speaking of?

I know that if I ever hit the lottery, the 2 bands that meant the most to me, SPARTAN LEGION and TROJAN EXPLOSION, will definitely benefit from my generosity. The man gave back to the school that helped him get in the position of giving back. I wouldn't begrudge him.

Yup, and NSU doesn't get the type of money Nebraska gets. You see that huge stadium Nebraska has right? You see all of those white fans? Well, don't think Nebraska needed this man's money even if he does want to give it to them. That's the point of the topic post above. We already know that Ndamukong Suh can do as he pleases as he's done already.

Point is why do you think Nebraska's white alumni haven't given this size donation before?

Not sure what your questioning Nova, but the short answers are:

1. No player in the history of Nebraska football has been in the of position Suh.  That being a lock solid top five pick in this era of 10+ million dollars guaranteed before ever suiting up.  The hightest drafted player before Suh was probably Lawrence Phillips and everyone knew that was a reach then.  Plus the league wasn't passing out 10+ plus million in guaranteed money.

2. There has and will only be one Ndamukong Suh.

3. No where in that blog or anything else posted here does it say what other players/alumi white, black, or whatever have or haven't given to Nebraska.

Again not sure what you're questioning or how you would know what former Nebraska players have given over their careers or lifetime.
