High school football is king in Texas.  If you have never been to a high school football game in Texas you have no clue.  In many communities in Texas having your son as the high school quarterback could mean a job promotion, new home, new car, etc.

I have seen some schools in Texas turn people away two hours before kickoff.

y,

Why are so damn dense?High school Football is king in alot of places in America, to include Alabam, Florida, Virginia, Cali, Hawaii and Ohio among others
I know about Texas football (had relatives play in Houston and other places) but a sixty million stadium is obscene no matter how you slice it.

Absurd why? If that area/school isn't experiencing lay off of teachers then I don't mind it. Who am I to tell a community they should not give that money to an entity that they take pride in.

Totally agree.  Looks like they are willing to give their kids the best facilities that money can afford or buy.  Let's be real here, how many times do we as African Americans really take that attitude towards our kids?
Could you be a little more specific with that question?

Well, if they ever have to lay off teachers or don't have enough books, perhaps they can sell chunks of sod or stadium seats... no

It kinda makes you wonder, don't it? 60 Million Dollars. That is a lot of money. I wonder when will the stadium finish paying for itself?

There's only one school in the district, with another one soon under construction.

They are adamantly against adding another high school there.  They want to be dominant in every sport.  Really, there are enough kids there to have 2 high schools now and STILL be 5A in sports.

I hope Texas place equal amount of emphasis on the student's academic success.

This is a very affluent area in north Texas.  It would be difficult to imagine that this district would lay off teachers, obviously anything can happen.  The district is very academically and athletically strong for example it has the highest rating school can receive in Texas, exemplary and has won state titles at highest classification level in football and a couple of other sports.  Many of these individuals are not worried about their income sources.  While others may be struggling and frustrated with the economic times, most of the two parent homes in this area are doing very well.  Unfortunately or fortunately, depending in what World you live in, many people do not share our struggles.

I would say the closest I have seen black folks do something like this for their kids is during AAU track and AAU basketball in the form of fees, travel expenses, etc....but not facilities.

The Mansfeild Sports Complex and Stadium is more state of the art and is as nice as most stadiums that college programs have. This type of thing is the norm in Texas.
