  • The stadium was part of a larger $120 million bond package passed in May 2009 that included nearly as much money for a state-of-the-art auditorium for performing arts;

    The town approved a bond package of $219 million in November 2008 that called for the building of two new elementary schools, the purchase of 45 school buses and improvements to many of the other elementary and middle schools in the district;

    The money for the project could only be used on capital expenses not general education;

    And, this is Texas, after all. Last year, the Allen football team played a game before more than 50,000 fans at the new Texas Stadium.

And my old HS is pissed because they had to settle for a stadium renovation of just under a million dollars for new artificial field turf and visitor's locker rooms when they were promised a whole lot more. lol And that only came about because ESPNU inquired about televising one or two of their games this year, and they didn't want the embarrassment of the facilities from the 70's and 80's on national TV. lol

Considering that teachers are getting laid off, and the fact that they are considering significant cutbacks in bus transportation, I'd say they are blessed to be getting what they are getting.   nod

this sends the wrong message.

What message does it send? That in this day and time of economic recession, a high school is spending 60 million on a football stadium when there are teachers being laid off all over the USA? Not to mention other fiscal, economic problems facing our communities and society, like foreclosures, bankrupt individuals, etc.  lmao
I see your point, but you know that football is KING in TEXAS, along with BAND. Did you read the article? That high school has 600 band students. 600!!!!!  Shocked But, that IS a lot of money for a high school football stadium. It looks better than a lot of our college stadiums that's for sure! Shocked

Hell, an 18,000 seat stadium is what NCCU is aspiring to have!

Some points to note:

The stadium will be a state-of-the-art, 18,000-seat facility that will feature two decks, a video scoreboard, four concession stands and 12 restrooms. It is scheduled to open in the fall of 2012.

Articles like this bore me. More misplaced priorities. Not sure of the school's location or make-up but I bet more Negroes will be on the playing field than in AP classes, if at all.

High school football is king in Texas.  If you have never been to a high school football game in Texas you have no clue.  In many communities in Texas having your son as the high school quarterback could mean a job promotion, new home, new car, etc.

I have seen some schools in Texas turn people away two hours before kickoff.

The town is north of Dallas and is the only school in the town.

y,

Why are so damn dense?High school Football is king in alot of places in America, to include Alabam, Florida, Virginia, Cali, Hawaii and Ohio among others
 I know about Texas football (had relatives play in Houston and other places) but a sixty million stadium is obscene no matter how you slice it.
