This is the first new album from GSH in 16 years and I'm thinking TRUE fans will want to listen:

I am truely a GSH fan.  I have everything he has ever recorded and have loved his music since 1973-74.  I will definitely get this one.  He is also an HBCU product, he attended Cheyney State in the late 60's.  He was (is) one of those who was ahead of his time.  Some of the things he recorded 30 years ago are very prevelant today.

I'm a GSH fan, also. I'm also a Spoken Word fan.  Thanks for the drop, Cholly!

GSH was one of our Heros in College in the '70s. My roomate and I would play his stuff all night long and contemplate the meaning...

I was fortunate enough to listen to an interview he gave on NPR yesterday. Waiting for Tuesday to get this one.

He is  the first rapper in my opinion.  I know Sugar Hill Gang and others got more publicity for being first but Gil is the man who started the ball rolling.

nod

And NONE of his poetry was garbage either.

He talked about social issues and matters important to our race and economic classes.

That brother is TOO deep. nod

You guys have been talking about his spoken word and his poetry, but I've always enjoyed his singing.  He doesn't have a great singing voive, but it is distinctive.  To the point that when you hear it, you definitely know it's GSH.  I don't have a lot of his stuff.  I only have one of his (along with Brian Jackson) older album, and I have the last one he put out (Spirits).  I'll have to pick this one up.
