Anybody hosting for the holidays?

I have a group of friends and we rotate functions (It's a nice habit to incorporate into relationships). Christmas is on me. We do A&T homecoming, a summer cookout, New Years and several other functions peppered in between. We try to keep this up because it is a reason for friends to get together. We use to do it very often 20 years ago but as we've gotten older, not so much. This week I have been cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. I'm not like GK and clean on the regular. When guest are coming over, I have to pull out the wood polish, dust the books, polish the pots and pan hanging in the kitchen, take the chandelier apart and wash every prism.... Dang I need a maid. :nod:
To help with the cost, the guest always brings the wine or something else. This year I'm doing something I have not done in years. Salmon with cream cheese, capers, and chopped onions on a platter. I can't find a whole salmon in town so I'm doing a half, and just attaching a head and tail from another fish to it. ;D Who knows what a salmon head supposed looks like anyway? Black Forest, and blackberry cheese cake are the desserts. During these things I always make my infamous Planters punch. Planters punch is Myers dark rum, grenadine syrup, pineapple/orange, lemon juice, lime juice.

we are hosting christmas. we will serve at 2pm sharp. one of my sisters in-law will probably arrive too late to eat. she is late for everything. i am not waiting one minute for her. grace will be said at 1359 hrs. at 1400 we start serving.

I knew I liked you for some reason y, I'm the same way. I have spent most of my life trying not to be a stereotype. Even when I host at my house, I usually forgo the typical menu items, except for Thanksgiving. My first job in college was working at City Club and my party skills were learned there. No paper, no plastic, and no serving yourself from the stove. When I do dinner, it is formal and you must be on time. If you are late, call and we will wait on you. You know what really pisses me off? Some of us are not willing to at least try new things. My specialty is cream soup, and it is one course. You know some black folk will turn their nose up and won't even try it? >:( That is very rude to your host and is bad manners. If you don't like something, unless you have medical issues with it, (then you need to say so), you should take a very small amount and eat all of it.
Something else we do is pile up our plates. :shrug: Very, bad manners. Get what you can eat, then get more. Some folk will pile up their plate and then won't eat it all. That happened with me during Thanksgiving. I never leave stuff on the plate; I don't overload it either.

I did a last minute birtday party for Da Queen the other night. Don't know about christmas, but I'll cook up some vittles for folks to nibble on if they stop by. ;)
JUST STAY AWAY FROM MY DAYUM RECLINER WHEN THE BOWL GAMES COME ON! >:( >:(
