One assistant, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Norfolk State was taking a hard look at three or possible four WSSU players.

"The vultures are out when it comes to looking at our players now," the assistant said. "That's the nature of things because of us going back to the CIAA."

Also, with the season over, players and their parents are free to contact other schools about transfer opportunities. Players who leave might get looks elsewhere in Division I because with WSSU at the Division II level, transfers will not have to sit at their new schools if they are eligible academically. Any player who transfers will need a waiver signed by WSSU, but another assistant said that would not be a problem.

I wonder if many of WSSU's very Outstanding Marching Band Members are thinking about transferring to Norfolk State or other D-I Schools, as well?

WSSU's Administrative Leadership Actions are such a SHAME !!!!!  nono2 Sad Cry

Good Luck To The Future of WSSU. "It Is Always Darkest, Before The Dawn" Please Keep Your Heads Up Rams. You are Still Our North Carolina HBCU Family and We Love and RESPECT You, for Your Outstanding History, Purpose and What You Stand For !!!! clap

Take care!

I really can't blame them.  Looks like SU is going back to the CIAA limping.  Good luck Rams and come to Durham next year.

WSSU will be fine. There are long lines of players that transfer out to the so-called "big leagues" and end up riding the pine, not making the team or becoming has beens. There might be some better players already at DI who decide to transfer down where they can really shine. I wonder if the assistant coach that spoke anonymously is being asked to come coach at Norfolk State? I doubt it. Bottom line as this list says, if you are good the scouts will notice. I would rather be a big fish in a small pond! Whoever the new coach is he very well might bring his own recruits with him the same way Rick Duckett did when he left Fayetteville State. Along with a few of San Hangers players Duckett won his only CIAA championship.

In terms of band...what irrational student would transfer, lose credit hours, pay out of state tuition, leave their friends and go through all the hassle to be in the band? There might be a few, but I seriously doubt marching band is that big of a deal. And the comments about some dag blasted cheerleaders transferring. lol Might as well gets to...tiptoe

Whatever these fellows do, I hope they get "edjumacated" and get a degree and hopefully a job after that.

But this is what little ol' D-II WSSU has been able to do. Many more were drafted but did not make a team.

Regardless if these kids came to Winston because they were transition Division 1AA then they are stupid. It really makes no sense, so what they are going down, at least they can compete for some type of championship immediately and not wait. They wouldn't have had that chance at Winston. Kids at Central do not have that chance. And like one said, if you are good, they will see you, period. The kids and their parents are the problems, I don't give a darn how good they are, where are they going, Norfolk? A and T? Howard? I mean come on. That ain't but so much better if at all. The kids are stupid for the false sense of D1.

If any of their players are reading, I know we are looking to replenish both lines, so if you are stout, give Taylor a call.

I'll even do you one better...Why would I want to recruit more than 2 or 3 of these guys at a MEAC school. They finished 1-10? so either you can't play, or you punked out on the people who brought you to WSSU in the 1st place. Either way I'd really need to see what your "extinuating circumstances" are before I gave up any football money for any of them. BTW NSU doesn't really need anymore MEAC caliber talent. We finally have plenty of that. What we need now is..as an example, the back up QB at Ohio State who's pissed off because he knows he ain't gonna play w/ Pryor calling the signals for another 2 years.

Also, with todays scouting network. You are not going to be missed by NFL scouts at a DII if you can play. SPC...That's SAINT PAUL's COLLEGE had a DB drafted in the 4th round this year. This is the same SPC that had to forfeit a game because they didn't have equipment on opening day this year.

I forgot to mention that probably one of the worse quarterbacks in WSSU football history, might very well be Jarrett Dunston http://www.wssurams.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/dunston_jarrett00.html, who came from a DI program and was just....  I hope there are some takers from (NSU, A&T, NCCU, Howard etc.) for this guy--he has one semester of playing time left.

I think NCCU is very OK at Quarterback.

However, If Some of the Young men who are Outstanding Offensive or Defensive Linemen and are outstanding Student-Athletes, who would love to stay in North Carolina and finish their Education and College Football Scholarship, We would Love for You to Transfer to NCCU, Only if you have really given it some thought, with someone you can really trust with your future, regarding such an important decision.

Good Luck To The WSSU Family and their Athletics Program.

Take care!

It is, what it is, I guess. But look at it like this: Those players were brought in under the pretense that they were playing D1 FCS football. WSSU did not follow through. How can you honestly blame the players? Calling them stupid when they thought they were gonna be playing FCS football? If my son was playing football at WSSU, and this happened to my son, I would like for him to at least explore his other options if he had them, and we'd go from there.

And band members could possibly transfer as well. A lot of band directors can waive out of state fees, and offer scholarship money, depending on the transfer student's circumstance. nod

This is no surprise here.  The kids will have to decide if staying at WSSU just because WSSU is a great place to be in spite of the drama is worth it.  I had to make that decision after my freshman year.  I was injured and gave up on basketball.  Plus WSSU didn't need me anyway in those days.  We dropped baseball.  NSU offered me a chance to come up there and do both.  I decided to stay.  Only SMALL regret is that I'll always wonder if I could have continued my success in baseball. (runner up All-CIAA to a future pro).  Basketball?  Joining the band made a nice replacement.  Band brothers got the 2nd most play on the yard in those days. Wink

BS, as I commented on the BCC-Wyatt post, one has to look at more than 1-10 record.  The only team that had a picnic against us was U-C Davis.  That was predictable.  Check out the other scores.  We do have some players, particularly on the D-line, and the defense in general. We  have some guys who can help every team in the league, including SC State.

Dunston:  that may be true statistically.  But as anyone who followed us knows-we don't have an O-line that's consistent.  We started 3 sophs and two freshmen THIS year.  Ergo-no running game-ergo QB subject to getting killed every week.  Like with Monte Purvis's first two years starting playing with a a bad line and "bad" receivers I won't be that critical of the QB. Even in Purvis's good senior season, our line was still inconsistent, and he got "killed in some games anyway.

WSSU has some good players.  I know some of the kids are interested in SCSU.  We welcome them.  Just cause the team had a bad record don't mean all the players are bad.

I'm sure yall will see a few of them on our roster.  Especially Lips Sealed.  Shut my mouth!

I am sure NCCU would welcome good solid football players from WSSU.  We typically recruit the same players, especially in state players.  There is a defensive linemen that we went after and WSSU ultimately landed him that I am sure NCCU is still interested in.
