Michael Steele: White Republicans 'Scared of Me'

Monday, November 9, 2009 7:26 PM

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is stirring controversy once again with a video interview in which he said that some white Republicans are “scared” of him when he walks into a room.

Steele was responding to TV One’s Roland Martin, who said that “white Republicans have been scared of black folks,” Steele replied: “You’re absolutely right.”

“I’ve been in the room and they’ve been scared of me,” said Steele, the first African-American RNC chairman, Politico reported. “I’m like, ‘I’m on your side.’”

Steele is an interesting study. When interviewed by Black media he softens his GOP allegiance .But then away from it he's in reactive attack dog mode.

I thought his campaign was kind of sneaky during his last state-wide election in Maryland where they posted "blue" campaign signs which conveniently omitted the fact that he was Republican.   nono2

Don't forget secret GOP strategy meetings sponsored by Koch bros: attendees included Congressmen, Governors, CEOs, National Chamber of Congress, and two Supreme Court Judges; all united to put GOP back in power. Could SC Judges be bought? smh

Isn't that what most politicians do?  I've seen some candidates pull out the old "fire & brimstone" speech in front of our folks at church or what not....then go with the smooth, business-centric speech in the civic circles....then out comes the "I'm with you, not against you" speech to the pink toes...

a few yrs ago when Ken Blackwell was running for State Auditor in Ohio, he ran some ads on talk radio stations that came under fire.  on the black talk radio station, the ad had a young girl who was obviously tech savvy, teaching her folks about what can be found on his website....and the dad is in the background talking about what's a website and how did u do that....

on the other stations a similar ad was running but the dad was, well let's just say, a bit more literate....in every sense of the word....

Man, was that a patronizing talk by Steele, or what?

Also, please someone direct me to the Steele talk where he said that opponents of Obama's reforms at town halls should not shout, but should be reasonable.  He may have said something to that effect, but if so, I missed it.

If he didn't say it, then he's a hypocrit.

Finally, he sure did soften his message about health care for that audience, didn't he?

Before this thread dies a natural death, I'd like to mention that in the context of Roland's statement to Steele, there is a bit of the "clutch your purse" kind of "fear" in this whole thing.
