Enough is enough.

Twin Que ASU and Bison66 have joined together – across the aisle, so to speak - to ask all Posters on Onnidan Politics Forum to ignore any and all threads where the TITLE of the thread disrespects the President of the United States by calling him out of his name, or using nicknames for him.

We have NO interest in stifling discussion by anyone or about anyone.  However, current disrespectful behavior has discouraged several people from participating and we are all the worse for not having their input and insights.

We feel that - given the already polarized atmosphere in the country and on this board – IGNORING THREAD TITLES INCLUDING DISRESPECT will foster more productive and less antagonistic debate and discussion.  Of course, this effort has no direct impact on any particular poster’s choice to name-call or disrespect anyone in THEIR OWN POSTS within a thread.  That is within the responsibility of the Forum Moderators to monitor and act.  We simply ask that Posters raise the level of debate.

We, as participating Posters/Members of the Forum, have the right, the choice, and the ability to decide in which threads we will participate.  This does not infringe on anyone’s speech, but it may encourage a healthier climate for discussion.

In the same spirit, we ask ALL Posters to refrain from using insulting or demeaning terms for fellow Posters in THREAD TITLES.  Like retorts of disrespect and name calling serves no purpose and fuels the joust of ignorance.  Please try to remember we are a group of college trained people who should be above and beyond name calling and petty insults

If there is a topic worthy of discussion, but which starts with a disrespectful TITLE, any Poster may start a substitute thread to discuss that issue or concern, while we continue to IGNORE THE DISRESECTFUL ONE.  Posters, let us all agree to resist temptation.  If more than one person begins a substitute thread, we suggest that the originator of the latter thread delete it - if s/he chooses to do so.

Twin Que ASU previously made a sustained and valiant effort to encourage one poster to stop such disrespectful references to our President and that poster said he would.  However, that poster’s commitment was soon broken.  Bison66 sincerely apologizes for any of his past thread titles that were disrespectful to anyone – but, at the same time, he does not believe in ‘unilateral disarmament’ re: name-calling.

It is our hope that – especially given the abuse and disrespect that Black people suffered throughout society, which included others refusing to address us as Mr., Mrs. or another title we had earned, even in the courts – civility and respect will be given more breathing space on this Forum.

We seek YOUR consideration and cooperation and we call on everyone to support this simple, non-intrusive, and constructive effort to elevate our discussion to a level more suitable to grown, mostly college-educated people.

Signed:
Twin Que ASU & Bison66

We ask for co-signers from all camps to join us with this effort Smiley

Co-signed, as previously agreed.

As Twin said, we encourage posters to IGNORE threads with titles disrespectful to the President.
