In a word, Yep.... [/qb]
Double standard.

You can base it on whatever it boils down to personal opinion. The rule is not going anywhere I dont think but its whatever i guess. I have more important things to worry about."

If the band is challenging the other band they are not helping the football team. That is the problem with the HBCU bands. They don‘t play for the team they play for themselves. That is the problem.

When does the crowd challenge the visiting crowd? Get the point?

I gotta agree with Y on this one. Some of our bands are just down right obnoxious. It‘s a football game.....................not a ""band"" game. Play when there‘s a break in the action. As much as someone wants to criticize bands at TWIs they seem to be able to adhere to this rule, and still get the crowd hyped (or, at least the Golden Band at LSU does     )"

"This isn‘t a CIAA, SIAC, SWAC or MEAC rule. The NCAA prohibits the use of artificial noise makers during game action for all sports. That includes band instruments, cow bells, air horns, etc. Feel free to make as much noise as you can by screaming, clapping or stomping your feet."

"Ok so let me ask this. All of us are under NCAA. SO when I went to a game and heard a can air horn blare, its a violation? I didnt see a flag come out at all if thats the case. It sounds petty right about now doesnt it? Thats sort of my point here. If the band plays, let them play.

Noise is noise.

It all sounds like they are really spliting hairs here and its rather a stupid rule to me.  shrug"

The band is easier to control because they are an organized identifiable group....therefore they have to follow protocol moreso than you or I would.

The players/coaches are less likely to be distracted by one or two fans with noisemakers than a

I dont think we can compare PWC‘s and HBCU‘s in this regard. Its like comparing apples and oranges.  The experience at a PWC game is totally different from that of a HBCU.  shrug

I think its a double standard. Thats just how i feel about it.

We need to agree to disagree on this one.

"I‘m not agreeing or disagreeing...not a right or wrong answer..could very well be a double standard...I‘m not debating that at all...But Life‘s not fair...and as a band if you KNOW that they are gonna penalize you or the team for playing, you should do what is asked whether it‘s fair or not....bottom line, while the game is not ALL about the football team, it is ULTIMATELY about the football team and not the band.  Sometimes you gotta do stuff just to cut down on confusion, whether it‘s right or wrong.

We‘re not disagreeing friend....Just saying it is what it is, that‘s all...."

Difference is, the Redcoat Band more than likely played Glory Glory to Old Georgia right AFTER every play and it only lasted 15 seconds. Any songs longer than that were played between quarters or TV timeouts...

Most PWC games I have attended don‘t have that problem...anytime they make a first down or have a good play they play the same little snippet for about 10-15 seconds and that‘s that
My point exactly!
HBCU bands could do the same thing. Honestly, in my experience, the PWC bands actually play more often during the game than HBCU bands. It‘s just that the HBCU bands play songs that are 3-5 minutes long everytime they play something.

Play a little fight song snippet after every good play or first down and, leave the longer songs for timeouts, halftime, etc.."
