"Do you people in Durham remember this feeder high school for the bands at NCCU, NC A&T and WSSU.

Hillside High School of Durham in 1974.

"
On October 15, 1956, Martin Luther King, Jr., spoke at Hillside High School. A young Baptist minister, King was receiving his first national attention for guiding a boycott of segregated city buses in Montgomery, Alabama. Invited by the Durham Business and Professional Chain as part of its Trade Week festivity.photograph by Jim Sparks, courtesy of the Herald-Sun"

"In the 1960s Hillside marched in The National Cherry Blossom Festival parade in Washington DC.

The movie ""The Inkwell"" in 1994 featured Hillside School.

The Hillside High School band has played for two presidents and was featured on ""The Oprah Winfrey Show."" in the 1980s.

Most of the North Carolina‘s black high schools were shut down or reduced to elementary or middle schools after integration. Just 5, including Hillside, still educate high school students."

"As a matter of fact the band director in that video later became the head band director at NCCU.

Also, notice the kids in the 1970s videos were not over weight. When you see the kids in high school and college marching bands today they are.

Why is this the case for many of our HBCU bands today where the young women are over weight?"

"Nova:

A lot less fast food opportunities in the ‘70s. Both in choices and finances.  We had to eat dinner at home for the most part in the 70‘s. No SUPER SIZE either!!!!!!!!

Now-a-days, after late afternoon high school practices and activities, kids eat at fast food joints (pick up about 3,000+ calories), then go home and eat dinner (pick up another 3,000+ calories). And before going to bed and while texting and talking on the cellie, they eat sugar snacks and (pick up another 2,000+ calories). I did not include breakfast, snack or lunch calories in full day calorie count.

We as (parents, teachers, schools, doctors and other health educators) have to monitor and guide our young people and their eating habits.  Health issues over time are going to kill or criple them at a very young age.  no"

Don't forget secret GOP strategy meetings sponsored by Koch bros: attendees included Congressmen, Governors, CEOs, National Chamber of Congress, and two Supreme Court Judges; all united to put GOP back in power. Could SC Judges be bought? smh
