It was bad enough gettig our arses kicked all over the field but to add insult to injury we had to listen to WSSU‘s ghetto azzed PA announcer! Dude talks continuously like he‘s doing play by play for a Rucker League game. He constantly mispronounces words he has no business trying to use and he often gets the down and distance wrong. Totally cheapens the game!     shrug

"I remember the announcer his first year when JCSU played the Rams...2004 I believe.

Did he say things like: ‘How ya feel about that Ram fans?"" and then responds ""YEAAAAAAAAH""

or refer to the quarterback as
""Monte srambled eggs Puuuuuuurvis""!!!

Unfortunately for JCSU, that was the most excitement in the game other than getting out butts kicked by the Rams."

"DEX, I agree 100%. I remember last year when the folk on D2 made issue of him. I have to agree, he is giving WSSU a very bad image. I found myself cringing several times."

"I dont know if he is the same dude from when I played at Bowie...but if so, that dude cannot correctly pronounce anyone‘s name. The good thing is we made some good nicknames out of the mispronunciations"

"Give the brother a break?      That is what is wrong with ""us"". We have accepted mediocrity and bad behavior far too long. If brother is not cutting  it, -get rid of him. I know this dude is popular and entertaining, but he is also the face of an academic institution. I know WSSU fans are use to him but he is the image visitors walk away with. If he were announcing Shaw games, I would chain myself to the president‘s desk until the situation is corrected. Last night when the A&T cheerleaders came over to WSSU side to cheer, he could not even pronounce the word, ""exhibition.""

A visitor is like, ""damn this is the way WSSU grads speak, must be a very poor place to get an education""

I personally don‘t feel that way, but trust me there are more than enough folk out there who do."

"i personally believe the p.a. announcer should show a little boosterism for the home team...like when the hampton announcer reminds the officials to ""Move the Chains."" but it does get tiring when they think they are play by play announcers and move way beyond down and distance, ball carrier and tackler...

and the halftime announcers -- guys and girls, move the mike a few more inches from your mouth and speak distinctly, it‘s not a radio station, most of that fast-paced, smooth jive is unintelligible...especially to those of us whose senses may be a little, shall we say dulled, by our pregame festivities..."

I am 99% sure this is not the same announcer when FVSU came to WSSU in 2004.

This announcer is a morning DJ on a local radio station (I believe it is 102 JAMZ).  Two years ago he really upset the white folks from Catawba.  WSSU received several complaints about him.  He toned it down some by the time NCCU came to town.  But in listening to the game on the radio last night I could tell he is back in full force."

The guy that does the PA for State is a local radio personality so alot of that is schtick. He‘s also a graduate of State. He‘s trying to give a different style to the PA. Weather is works or not is a matter of taste. The school doesn‘t seem to mind so he continues to do what he does. I think they like the idea that does a little trash talk when they‘re kickin‘ somebody‘s butt.

"Yes, it all boils down to a matter of taste.  People were complaining that the previous announcer just as they are with the current one.  Yes Catawba was upset for the first game that he announced, not sure what was said since I didn‘t attend that game, so I cannot compare then to now.  Apologies were issued and he was asked to tone it down.  He was hired to bring some excitement to the game and I think that he has met that objective."

"When Al Roseboro and the guy who followed him as your PA announcer they brought an air of professionalism to the game.  This new guy is just a hip hop DJ that needs to stick to announcing the action of the game.

I heard this only one time in person, that was when NCCU came to town in 2005.  He did tone it down and I was prepared for whatever he said.  But I could hear on the radio on Saturday that he was back to his old self."
